Going against your Light Meter

 List your notes from Mr. Garland’s discussion in class on lighting and how to “go against” what your light meter

• set your light meter correctly on whatever your taking a picture of
• switch the shutter speed a couple clicks faster (should not be to slow or will be out of focus)
• aperature wide open

Portriats Critique

This picture is a little simple. I wish there was a little something in the background. It also needs to be more focused.

Portrait Examples

 Pretty colors and background.

 Powerful eyes. The way shes looking adds to the picture.

 You eyes go straight to his face.

 Shows what shes thinking that she upset or scared.

 Cute. Shows the boys age and how he feels about getting his picture taken.

 Your eyes go straight to the babies eyes.

 The puppy is really cute and simple background allows you to focus on him.

 Shows her personality and culture.

 Interesting angle.

Tells you a lot about this guy.

Idea of Good Portrait

I think a good portrait has a simple but interesting background that compliments the message your trying to convey about that person. Dramatic lighting also adds to the portrait and taking the photo in a way that shows the personality of the person to the viewers.

National Geographic DVD

·      List 5 ideas (compositional approaches, lighting techniques, etc.) that you noticed in the DVD that would make you a better photographer.

·      Describe your favorite photographer in the DVD.  Let me know why you liked their approach or style.

·      What was your favorite photograph?  Why?

·      Did any of these photographs help reinforce some of the ideas that we have discussed in photography class?  List and describe at least two that you noticed.

1) Take from above for a certain feeling in a picture. Wait for the right moment to snap picture. Do your research to convey the right message. Get good dramatic lighting to increase the interest in a picture. Traingular balance is always good.

2/3) The guy who shot in Africa. He went in interesting places most people don't or wouldn't go there so it gives us interesting pictures.

4) Framing- like in the most famous portrait where the girls face is framed by there style of dress.
 Position- photos taken from above to disply photographer dominance.

Positive and Negative Critique

I don't love this photo that much. I like the slight motion and the touch or her face that you see that lets you know shes struggling in this arm wrestle but it just is not my favorite photo that I have taken.

Framing Examples

 It gives you an area to focus on.

 It helps focus your eye on where to look.

 I love how simple it is. It really makes the framed scene pop.

 It helps the colors pop with the dark frame.

It makes the photograph more interesting then just an ocean.

Framing Critique

I actually really like the picture. I like how its not just framed within two bushes. You have a person and a plant. It lets you know someone is watching what he is doing so it gives you an idea about what it is going on at this time.

Hands and Feet Critique

Though the printing of the picture wasn't very good I like the actual picture with the kittens paws and person's hands.

Hands and Feet Examples

Search the internet and find 5 photos that utilize “hands and feet” in different ways.  Write a short statement as to why you were attracted to each photo.

 It is interesting with the feet in the hands.

 All the different layers are nice.

The old texture of the hands are interesting.

 I like the motion.

The flower adds a nice touch.

Rule of Third Examples

 Search the internet and find 5 photos that utilize “rule of thirds” in different ways.  Write a short statement as to why you were attracted to each photo.

 I like the simplicity of this photo.

 It draws your eye directly to the ladybug.

 It is balanced.

 You look right at the lighthouse.

It is powerful and simple.

Critique Rule of Thirds

            Go into your blog and copy one photo from YOUR “rule of thirds” assignment.  Give an honest critique of that photo.  Are you happy with it?  If so, what do you like?  If not, what would you change?  Is there anything you could improve upon?

What I don't like about this picture is how the camera is tilted so the window lines go up. Also the branch on the side kind of distracts me. I like the cats position though.

Critique of Conveying a Message

This picture was taken at our pageant. I really like this picure because I think the moment is nice. I think it conveys a 'princess' message pretty clearly.
